CBC News has learned that Mike Baker, 20-year veteran of the force, is charged with assault
Calgary Police Association vice-president Mike Baker is facing a charge of assault after an off-duty domestic incident last week, CBC News has learned.
Officers were called to a home in the city's southeast on May 28.
"A subsequent investigation by the CPS domestic conflict unit has resulted in the member being charged with one count of assault," police said in a release.
Police did not name the 20-year veteran of the force, but three CBC News sources confirmed the man facing charges is Mike Baker.
Baker was on leave from CPS while in the role of CPA vice president.
"As is the case any time charges are laid against a member of the public, the officer is afforded the right to a fair trial and is being offered the appropriate supports from the service throughout the court process," police said.
Baker, who had been very active on Twitter, deleted his account in the past couple of days.
CPA president Les Kaminski faced his own set of charges — perjury and assault — stemming from a 2008 arrest. But all charges were dropped as of January.
CBC News has asked the CPA for a comment but the organization has not yet responded.
Baker will make his first court appearance on Friday.
