The fire was headed east toward 37th Street S.W.
A grass fire on the Tsuut'ina First Nation near the Grey Eagle Casino prompted the evacuation of homes in the southwest Calgary community of Lakeview on Saturday evening.
The Calgary Fire Department said a slow-moving grass fire was headed east toward 37th Street, between 66th Avenue and 54th Avenue S.W., which prompted Calgary police to issue the precautionary evacuation order around 7:30 p.m.
The fire was declared under control and the fire department said in a release that all residents had returned to their homes as of 9:30 p.m.
Homes were not believed to be in danger, but the evacuation was due to the large amount of smoke blowing east across the road.
A portion of 37th Street S.W. was also shut down to respond to the blaze.
The number of residents impacted was not immediately available.
Calgary police confirmed that two buses had been sent to the scene to transport impacted residents to the Grey Eagle.
The fire department reminded Calgarians that conditions are extremely dry.
There were a number of other calls for grass fires around the city on Saturday, including one near Fish Creek-Lacombe C-Train station that was put out around 6 p.m.
