First reports of collision to police

Police called to the area of Yonge Street and Finch Avenue in north Toronto around 1:30 p.m. ET after reports of a van mounting a curb and hitting pedestrians on the sidewalk. The van was travelling southbound toward Sheppard Avenue.

Suspected driver arrested

Toronto police locate van involved in the collision and arrest the suspected driver.

Location: Poyntz Ave., just west of Yonge Street

Police announce 9 dead, 16 injured (later revised to 10 dead and 15 injured)

At a late-afternoon news conference, Toronto Mayor John Tory and Deputy Chief Peter Yuen confirm the death toll and say a "major" investigation is underway. Tory says to expect disruptions to businesses and traffic in the area in the coming days.
