Saskatoon firefighters call off search after report of man in South Saskatchewan River

Police were called to Gabriel Dumont Park around 11 a.m.
After hours searching the South Saskatchewan River following a report of a man in the water, the Saskatoon fire department called back its crew.
Police were called to Gabriel Dumont Park at around 11 a.m. CST after receiving a report of a man in the middle of the river.
It's not known how the man entered the river.
The fire department deployed three water rescue boats with four divers. Crews were also using sonar.
By late afternoon, the department decided to call off the search. No one was found.
The fire department is warning people to stay off ice on ponds and lakes, as the ice has begun to disintegrate. The department warns that no one should ever go out on river ice.
