Airdrie homes evacuated due to multi-structure fire

The fire was under control by 8 p.m.
Residents were evacuated from three homes in Airdrie, Alta., due to a large garage fire on Thursday evening.
RCMP said in a release at approximately 6:45 p.m. that residents were being evacuated from homes near the 200 block of Tanner Dr. in the southeast neighbourhood of Thorburn.
When the fire department arrived, the said they found a double-garage with a vehicle inside that was in flames. The garage was destroyed.
The fire was stopped before it spread, but there was severe external exposure damage to three additional homes and another garage.
RCMP said that the fire was under control by 8 p.m., but that the fire department remained on scene investigating.
Members of the public were asked to steer clear in order for police and the fire department to respond to the blaze.
