On the Canada Reads(external link) 2018 finale, Tahmoh Penikett, defending American War by Omar El Akkad, went head to head against Jeanne Beker, defending Forgiveness by Mark Sakamoto, to determine the winner of this year's battle of the books.
On the final day of debates, Penikett and Beker were each given the opportunity to sway fellow panellists Mozhdah Jamalzadah, Greg Johnson and Jully Black through discussions of the books' literary merit, themes and subject matter — and why their respective book is the one book to open the eyes of all Canadians.
