A man in Lethbridge, Alta., has been charged after his parents were stabbed while sleeping in their bedroom early Sunday morning.
"On Feb. 11, at approximately 2:41 a.m. police responded to a report of an assault at a west side home," police said in a release issued Monday afternoon.
"Investigation determined that a 72-year-old man and a 62-year-old woman had been asleep in their bedroom," police said, when a man entered the room and stabbed them before fleeing the home.
The victims' 28-year-old son was arrested a short distance away, police said.
The man is charged with two counts of attempted murder and two counts of aggravated assault.
He is to undergo a psychiatric assessment.
He is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
Police did not release the names of those involved, saying they wanted to protect the privacy of the victims.
