Winnipeg man dead after head-on crash on Highway 9

Highway was closed for much of the day after crash

A Winnipeg man is dead following a head-on crash on Highway 9 Sunday afternoon.
RCMP were called to the crash near Bowser Road in the RM of St. Andrews around 1:15 p.m.
Investigators believe a northbound SUV driven by a 57-year-old man from Winnipeg tried to pass another vehicle when he crashed head-on with a southbound pickup truck driven by a 40-year-old man from the RM of St. Andrews.
The driver of the SUV, who was not wearing his seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the pickup truck was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.
Police closed the highway and diverted traffic around the scene until shortly after 6 p.m.
Officers from the Selkirk RCMP along with an RCMP forensic collision reconstructionist continue to investigate.
