Police officer suffers minor bumps and bruises in parking lot confrontation
Police in Lethbridge, Alta., are searching for the driver of a stolen vehicle who dragged and backed into a police officer early Tuesday morning.
The incident took place when a police officer searching on foot spotted a Lincoln MKX that fit the description of a car that had been reported stolen pulling into a parking lot off Palm Road South.
When the driver ignored the officer's request to get out of the car, the officer tried the door handle, at which time the driver threw the car into reverse, dragging the officer a short distance.
The officer was able to step away from the vehicle, and repeated his request that the driver exit the car.
Instead, the driver drove forward a short distance before reversing, hitting the officer and pushing him back a few metres. He was able to get out of the way and avoid being driven over.
Apart from a few minor bumps and bruises, the officer was unhurt and didn't require medical attention.
The driver fled the scene, and the police have been unable to locate him or the stolen vehicle, described as a white Lincoln MKX, licence plate BBT-8529.
The driver is described as a Caucasian male, with curly or messy hair, light in colour, and light coloured eyes, wearing a white T-shirt.
Anyone with information about the suspect or the car is asked to call police at 403-328-4444.
