When Andy Hines first started making music videos, it was because he wanted to get experience in directing — to have something of his own under his belt. Little did he know it would lead him to a Grammy nomination in the best video category this year for "1-800-273-8255" by Logic, featuring Khalid and Alessia Cara. The title is a reference to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline in the U.S., and the story follows a black teenager struggling with his sexuality, and thinking about committing suicide.
The director from Avondale, Nova Scotia talks to Tom Power about what the nomination and video means to him and makes the case for appreciating the art of the music video.
