Environment Canada has ended its extreme cold weather alert for London and the surrounding area.

With the windchill, temperatures could reach –30 C this morning.

The extreme cold warning covered London, Parkhill, Strathroy, Komoka, eastern and western Middlesex County.

​The conditions will improve later today, Environment Canada predicted.

The weather agency urged people to cover up, check on older family, friends and neighbours, and to keep pets inside.

Earlier this week, the City of London and the Middlesex London Health Unit came under fire from London advocate Megan Walker, who called on the city and health unit to do more to make sure those who need help keeping out of the cold know where to find information.

The city eventually added the information on its warming centres on the london.ca homepage.

Libraries also welcome people during regular hours of operation.

The Boyle Memorial Community centre and Byron Optimist Community Centre are closed all week for holidays, and don't act as warming centres.

The Kiwanis Seniors Centre is closed this weekend, and the Medway Community Centre is closed today.

The Springbank Gardens Community Centre is closed today and tomorrow.

The city came under fire right after Christmas because most city services, including Ontario Works, closed for two weeks of holidays.

On social media, Walker praised the city and health unit for finally displaying cold-weather information online after her request.

She got praise for pushing the city and health unit to post the warming centre locations and hours prominently on their website.

"#homeless people appreciate it," one person tweeted.
