Fauzia Mazhar has worked in the local not-for-profit sector in various roles ranging from employment counsellor to program coordinator since she arrived in Canada 15 years ago.
She has a BA in Education and Economics from Pakistan and a BA in Psychology and Masters in Social Work from Wilfrid Laurier University.
Mazhar is passionate about bringing people together to build a welcoming, inclusive, safe and vibrant community.
She said the community co-host project speaks to the work she has been doing to create a strong presence for Muslim women in Kitchener-Waterloo.
"It's giving voice to communities that otherwise may not have a voice, in the world of journalism," she told CBC. "Being able to understand the whole process is very powerful."
