Police say death of 36-year-old may be linked to work in sex trade
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary says the body found near O'Brien Farm Road on Nov. 11 is Victoria Head, a 36-year-old woman from St. John's.
They are investigating her death as a homicide.
Head's body was discovered by a member of the public in a field around 8:20 a.m., but police do not know if this was the site of her death.
Police said they would not be releasing further information about Head's death, but did say she was working in the sex trade industry, which they said "may be connected to her murder."
Residents of the area told CBC News the gravel path, which runs between Mount Scio Road and O'Brien Hill, appears to be a popular place for prostitution.
The RNC said it does not believe there is anything to suggest a risk to the public's safety. However, police are warning people in the downtown St. John's area, especially sex workers, to be "extra vigilant."
They also say there will be increased police presence in certain downtown areas as of Tuesday night.
Head was last seen by Queen's Road in St. John's in the early hours of the morning of Nov. 11, according to police.
Anyone with information about Head's death is asked to contact the RNC or Crime Stoppers.
