A suspect and a civilian are in hospital after an attempt to apprehend two people in Lloydminster on Wednesday resulted in a collision and an officer-involved shooting.
At about 4:40 p.m., police officers "involved in an investigation" attempted to stop a suspect vehicle, but the driver refused, RCMP said in a news release.
As the suspect vehicle fled police, it was involved in a collision with a civilian vehicle. After the crash, two suspects got out of the vehicle and attempted to flee, RCMP said.
One suspect was arrested after a "short foot pursuit," and officers "engaged the second suspect," police said in a release.
The second suspect was transported to hospital under police guard.
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is investigating the officer-involved shooting, RCMP said.
The civilian driver injured in the crash was taken to hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries. The Lloydminster Major Crimes unit continues to investigate the case.
. ASIRT has jurisdiction over all sworn police officers in Alberta. It investigates incidents involving police that result in serious injury or death, as well as serious or sensitive allegations of police misconduct.
