Woman dies after violent assault in Lethbridge on Saturday

Police say victim and suspect knew each other

A man is facing homicide charges after a violent assault that led to the death of a woman in Lethbridge on Saturday, police said in a release.
"At approximately 3:30 p.m., an officer on patrol observed and intervened in an assault in progress along the 400 block of 6 Avenue South," Lethbridge police said.
"EMS were immediately called and the male suspect was arrested. A 48-year-old woman was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries and died a short time later."

Not random

Police said the victim and suspect, a 52-year-old man, are known to each other and the assault was not a random incident.
Names are not being released at this time.
