A veteran U.S. sports economist says public funding of sports arenas rarely benefits the host city.
Victor Matheson — who has studied the issue in-depth — says there is "no good reason that rich owners can't build their own stadiums."
Matheson is adding his name to the list of critics of Calgary's potential contribution to a new complex to house the Calgary Flames.
