"While writing, shut down email and internet access. All of it! Whether we are obsessively hitting refresh on the inbox while awaiting submission news, fact checking some small but vital detail or cruising Facebook while we stretch, this leads to fractured thinking. We need to practice and strengthen our long-deep writing muscles for most effective — and satisfying — story sinking."
As a child, Winnipeg author and actor Anita Daher moved with her family every few years, sometimes to small and remote communities like Churchill, Man. She has written on this theme in over a dozen novels for young readers published in Canada and Europe. Her story "Mime" made the longlist for the 2017 CBC Short Story Prize.
