A 49-year-old Guelph teacher at College Heights Secondary School has been charged with sexual offences involving a minor.
Guelph Police Service arrested the teacher Monday and charged him with sexual assault, sexual exploitation and obtaining sexual services for consideration from a minor. That last charge means there was an alleged agreement for a specific sexual service in return for payment or another kind of consideration.
Police said there was only one victim and the charges stem from alleged incidents from 2016 to now. Police would not say if the alleged victim was a student at the school.
Police also said they cannot give information on who came forward with the information.
The Upper Grand District School Board said in a statement the accused has been a teacher at College Heights since 2003.
"We can confirm that the teacher is not at school during this ongoing investigation and the board has reported this situation to the Ontario College of Teachers," the board said.
Police are asking for people with information relating to this investigation to contact Const. Patty Pronovost at 519-824-1212 at extension 7203.
