Barrel with 'explosives' on it was left in front of a Bowness home on Wednesday
A suspicious package discovered Wednesday morning in Bowness has been neutralized by Calgary police.
Police were called to the 6300 block of 31st Avenue N.W. on Wednesday, around 7:15 a.m., when someone noticed an unattended barrel with the word "explosives" on it sitting outside a residence.
After evacuating and containing the area, police called in the tactical unit, which neutralized the package. As a precaution, the barrel was destroyed at 10:30 a.m.
The area is now safe, police said.
Officers remained in the area for several hours, investigating the contents of the barrel while they tried to determine who may have put it there and why.
It has still not been determined how much of a threat the barrel posed.
