Angela Post has made the 2017 CBC Nonfiction Prize longlist for "Changing Connections".

Angela Post was born in Yukon and grew up with her Brazilian mother and Latvian father in a mining town inhabited by about 500 people. She writes young adult and children's books when not working as a psychologist. She was one of the finalists for the Storytellers' Award at the 2016 Surrey International Writers' Conference. That story was published in the summer 2017 edition of PULP Literature magazine.

Shifting awareness of phone etiquette.

"I had been noticing the changes that have come with smartphones and their impact in therapy sessions with clients.The unspoken shared understanding of phone etiquette has shifted dramatically over time."

"I strain my eyes to read the too small text on her phone. Maybe I should start bringing my reading glasses. The prescription ones that cost $500 that I almost never use. At home, it is easy to find a pair of magnifying glasses. My husband hoards them and scatters them in random places around the house. Here at work, all I can do is squint.

"I glance out the window for a moment. The air is crisp in my corner office today. Even with the tiny space heater pushing out warmth with all its' might. The chickadees bounce around outside on the snow foraging for seeds."

The winner of the 2017 CBC Nonfiction Prize will receive $6,000 from the Canada Council for the Arts, will have an opportunity to attend a 10-day writing residency at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity and have their story published on CBC Books and in Air Canada enRoute magazine. Four finalists will receive $1,000 from the Canada Council for the Arts and have their story published on CBC Books.
