11 new specialists hired for hospitals Gander and Grand Falls-Windsor
Central Newfoundland's health authority is hiring 11 new specialists, including two obstetricians and gynecologists in Gander.
James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre in Gander has been without a obstetrician since April, which means no patient has been able to deliver their baby there in months.
Obstetrical services are expected to resume in Gander this fall.
Central Health has also hired two pediatricians, a clinical associate (OR) and two internists for the Gander hospital.
In Grand Falls-Windsor, the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre will be getting a new anaesthetist, psychiatrist, pediatrician as well as a urologist.
"Physician recruitment has a number of challenges, including national competition for a limited pool of specialists," Dr. Jeff Cole, VP of medical services for Central Health said in a release Wednesay.
