Lesley Livingston's YA novel The Valiant is being developed into a one-hour television series for The CW, home of the popular shows Jane the Virgin and Riverdale, Variety has reported.
The drama is not yet ordered to series, but will be developed by Laurie Arent and Mary Beth Basile, who have worked on NCIS: New Orleans and Evil Men respectively.
The Toronto author's book follows a Celtic princess named Fallon, who is kidnapped and sold into a training camp for female gladiators. The camp is owned by Julius Caesar, her family's loathed enemy, and Fallon is forced to fight for survival and freedom in the arenas.
Livingston took to Twitter to express her excitement for the new series.
"I am, understandably, OVER THE MOON about this," said Livingston, whose other books include the Wondrous Strange series, the Never series and the Starling Saga series.
The CW has seen a great deal of success adapting YA books for TV. The Vampire Diaries, based on the books by L.J. Smith, wrapped its eighth and final season in March 2017. Its spinoff, The Originals, was renewed for a fifth season. Riverdale, inspired by Archie comics, kicks off its second season on Oct. 12, 2017.
