Jeff Lemire among Canadian Eisner Award winners

The Eisner Awards, which recognize the best publications and creators of comics and graphic novels distributed in the United States, were given out over the weekend at the San Diego Comic-Con. The awards were named for acclaimed comics creator Will Eisner.
Toronto, Ont.-based Jeff Lemire, whose books include the acclaimed Essex County and the Gord Downie collaboration Secret Path, won Best New Series for Black Hammer alongside Dean Ormston.
Saga, the comic series illustrated by Calgary's Fiona Staples, won four awards: Best Continuing Series, Best Writer, Best Pencil/Inker and Best Cover Artist. The series is written by Brian K. Vaughan.
Ontario's David Finch won Best Short Story for "Good Boy" in Batman Annual #1 with Tom King.
Chip Zdarsky (born in Edmonton, Alta.) and Ryan North (originally from Ottawa, Ont.) won Best Humor publication alongside Erica Henderson and Derek Charm for Jughead.
Ryan North also picked up Best Publication for Teens (ages 13-17) for The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, a comic co-written with Erica Henderson.
