July 1, 2017 marks 150 years since Confederation in Canada. CBC Books is creating the great Canadian reading list — a list of 150 books curated by you.
Terry Seguin, host of Information Morning Frederiction, adds Two Solitudes by Hugh MacLennan to the reading list.
"This is one of those novels you were required to read in high school in Ontario back in the 1970s. There were others, many others, but this one made a lasting impression quite possibly because it was the first time I'd ever read a work that addressed my personal reality, a young Canadian with a French Canadian father and Welsh/Ojibwa mother, in a meaningful way. The articulation of the friction between the two solitudes helped me understand some of the questions I had been struggling with while at the same time helping me reach a deeper understanding of what Canada is."
Terry Seguin is the host of Information Morning Frederiction, which airs every weekday from 5:55 a.m. to 8:37 a.m. in Fredericton to Edmundston in New Brunswick.
