The script has some compelling moments, but pacing becomes an issue in Desdemona
Rating: ★★★
Company: R-G Productions
Genre: Play - Dramedy
Venue: 2- MTC Up The Alley
The script is a treat. Playwright Paula Vogel delivers with this re-imagining and fleshed out version of Desdemona from Othello. What thoughts and motives drive her on? What was happening behind the scenes leading up to her fateful end?
There are some hiccups.
Pacing is an issue in the 70 minute show. The script builds to some lovely reveals, but we never got the momentum leading up to them. On opening night, the accent work meandered and took us out of the story more than a few times.
If you want to support a good script and three performers with heart, this is the show for you. - Bradley Sawatzky
Nevertheless, Heather Forgie has some lovely moments as Bianca. If you want to support a good script and three performers with heart, this is the show for you.
Corrections:
- An earlier version of this review said the show ran 10 minutes over the running time listed in the Fringe program. In fact, the listed running time is 90 minutes and the show ran 70 minutes on opening night. July 20, 2017 7:04 PM
