4-year deal guarantees job security; still faces council approval
The City of Winnipeg's largest union has accepted a contract offer.
The Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 500 voted Thursday to accept a 50-month deal from the city that guarantees none of its existing 5,070 employees will be laid off.
CUPE 500 president Gord Delbridge said 66 per cent of workers voted in favour of the deal, which calls for three annual wage hikes of 1.5 per cent, followed by a one-year wage freeze.
City council must approve the contract, either at its next regular meeting on July 19 or at a special meeting that would be scheduled earlier in July.
