An adaptation of Emily Schultz's The Blondes is being developed by Shudder, a streaming service from AMC Networks that focuses on the thriller, horror and suspense genres.
On Twitter, Schultz said she was "ecstatic" about the news.
"I didn't think about it at the time of writing the novel, but The Blondes turned out to be its own world and to continue to explore that world again on screen is beyond exciting," said Schultz in an email to CBC Books.
In The Blondes, a mysterious illness begins turning blonde-haired women into crazed killers. The novel's heroine is pregnant graduate student Hazel Hayes, who is on the run to protect herself and her unborn child.
Schultz said she'll be working on the pilot episode of the series.
The book was nominated for the Trillium Book Award in 2013. Schultz's most recent novel is Men Walking On Water.
The Blondes is one of several original programs Shudder is developing, according to Entertainment Weekly.
