Former ferry workers, who worked the route between Borden, P.E.I., and Cape Tormentine, N.B., will gather this weekend to mark 20 years since the opening of the Confederation Bridge.
The reunion will happen this Saturday in Borden-Carleton and will include former staff, along with their family and friends.
It was hard to watch that bridge being built as we worked. - Carol Walsh
Carol Walsh worked with Marine Altantic for 22 years and held several jobs, including cooking and directing traffic.
The event will be a way for people to remember the good times they had, she said, and also reflect on struggles many faced when losing their jobs.
"It was hard to watch that bridge being built as we worked," said Walsh.
"So many times it was both husband and wife that worked with the ferry system as it was in our household. So, it was quite a trying time for everyone but we did all get through it and I think getting through it together helped."
The reunion takes place this Saturday evening at 6 p.m. at the legion in Borden-Carleton.
On Sunday there will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a monument dedicated to the ferry workers at the Marine Rail Historical Park.
