International known electronic musician Deadmau5, who performs in a giant mouse head, is coming to Halifax for Canada Day celebrations and will play at a free concert on the Halifax Common.

The municipality announced Thursday morning that the Toronto DJ has been booked for the Canada 150 show and will play the main stage.

This is the first time Deadmau5 will bring his CUBE 2.1 — an LED cube that's part of his stage design — to Canada.

The release from the municipality said the event will feature "the most revolutionary stage design the municipality has ever seen."

Deadmau5's real name is Joel Thomas Zimmerman. He was born in Niagara Falls, Ont.

The Canada 150 show also includes local artist Matt Mays, who will perform new music from his latest album, as well as a tribute to Stan Rogers by Neptune Theatre and a performance by Halifax poet laureate Rebecca Thomas.

Celtic band Ashelin, francophone artist Izabelle Ouellet and North Preston's Reeny Smith will also perform on the main stage.

HRM will be hosting a series of free events in Halifax and Dartmouth on Canada Day.

The all-ages concert on the Common starts at 5 p.m. on July 1 and includes an evening fireworks show.
