The temperature peaked at 25.4 C at 5 p.m. The previous record was 25 C.
Charlottetown's record was one of a number around the Maritimes, including in Summerside, where it reached 26.3 C (22.6 C in 2010) and Maple Plains where it also hit 26.3 C (20.1 C in 2006).
The hottest spot in the Maritimes was Kejimkujik National Park, where it climbed to 31.4 C.
There is another shot at a record Friday, with a forecast high of 26 C.
While the sunshine will continue after some overnight rain, the weekend is expected to be much cooler, with a high of 10 C Saturday and 12 C Sunday.
