Community will hold an annual service at the memorial
Some people in in a small eastern P.E.I. community are creating a place to remember local people who have died and are not buried on the Island.
A metal tree has been constructed by students at Holland College's Georgetown campus, and it will be set up in the cemetery in Lorne Valley. Plaques with names and birth and death dates will be fixed to the tree.
"We are having a memorial service on Monday, May 22, to initiate and erect the first tree initially," said Debbie MacDonald, one of the community members working on the project.
"After that once a year we will have a memorial service and dedicate that to the new names that have been placed on the tree over the year."
MacDonald said it is important for family members to have a place to remember their loved ones who have died.
The tree is being delivered from Holland College in Georgetown to the Lorne Valley cemetery on Wednesday.
