P.E.I. hockey player pleads guilty to assault on referee

Player's father also charged with assault
An 18 year old man, Cole Trevor Crane, pleaded guilty to assault in provincial court Monday in relation to an incident involving a referee.

The hockey player, who has no previous record, pleaded guilty in relation to an assault on a referee on March 26, 2017.
The incident happened at the Pownal Sports Centre in Pownal, P.E.I., during the Midget AA finals minor hockey game. The referee sustained minor injuries.
Crane's lawyer asked the judge if an agreed statement of facts could be filed with the court and probation services by May 23 regarding the incident. The matter has been adjourned until June 21 for sentencing.
Crane's father, James Trevor Crane, 41, was also in court Monday. He was also charged with assault in relation to the same incident at Pownal Sports Centre.
He did not enter a plea. His case was also adjourned to June 21.
