Churches, beaches, banquet halls? Sure. But an airport?
The atypical wedding venue is exactly where Calgarians Jeannine Beck and Fareed Rawji chose to tie the knot Wednesday morning, marking a first for the new international terminal in Calgary.
"Originally, we were looking at having a destination wedding, but wanted something that was truly unique," said Beck, 27.
"Rather than having our wedding ceremony in Mexico, we thought, 'Let's get married in Calgary in a colourful way.'"
The ceremony took place in front of an intimate crowd at the departures check-in hall. Moments later, the newlyweds hopped a plane to Mexico for the honeymoon.
Beck and Rawji reached out to Sunwing Airlines and YYC to organize the historic event.
Jody Mosley with the Calgary Airport Authority said her organization was "thrilled to play a role in the first step of this couple's journey."
