A new grocery market will soon be filling a gap in shopper's needs in downtown Charlottetown.
Owner Mila MacLean Homburg says she and her husband, Phil Homburg hope to open the Kent Street Market this summer.
"We've had tons of people come up to us on the street over the last week or so and said 'we're so excited about your market.'"

Local products

McLean Homburg said many people want to be able to shop downtown and want to get local produce wherever they can.
The new market will offer local and organic products from farms and producers all across P.E.I. including vegetables, meat along with some pantry items including flour, sugar and rice and more.
"There are so many great farms and producers here doing so many great things that what we wanted to do is put those together."

Day-to-day essentials

McLean Homburg points out the market will not be the place where you can do a big weekly shop like in a regular grocery store — "but for all your essentials on a day to day basis we'll have what you need."
The market is partnering with Simple Feast Catering to have sandwiches, soups and salads available to buy at lunchtime.
"At end of day, we're going to be offering some grab and go meals," said McLean Homburg. "So if you're on your way home and you're not sure what you're going to have for dinner, you can stop by and pick up a meal that will be great for four people or two people with leftovers."
The owners are starting off small but plan to expand in future if the business proves to be successful.
"There's just so much amazing food and produce here that I think is really special and that's what we want to highlight."
