Police charge 18-year-old with murder in stabbing at Coliseum transit station

Brandon Provencher died in hospital three days after being stabbed in robbery
Edmonton police have charged an 18-year-old man with second-degree murder in the fatal stabbing of 19-year-old man near the Coliseum LRT transit station.
The victim was stabbed in the chest during a robbery on April 11 and died in hospital on April 14.
Police didn't release the victim's name but family and friends identified him as Brandon Provencher.
In a news release Thursday, police said the 18-year-old's charges have been upgraded to second-degree murder, robbery, attempted robbery and possession of an offensive weapon.
Another man, age 19, has been charged with two counts of robbery, assault, assault with a weapon and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
Police said that at 3:40 p.m. on April 11, an 18-year-old man was robbed and assaulted by two men at the Coliseum LRT transit station.
Minutes later, a 19-year-old was approached by the same two men near the 118th Avenue overpass beside Coliseum station. He was robbed and assaulted, and one of the men stabbed him in the chest, police said.
The victim was taken to hospital in critical condition. After his death, homicide detectives took over the investigation.
