54-year-old man lost control of motorbike after hitting bird and crashed into tractor trailer
The motorcyclist who hit a wild turkey, then crashed into a transport truck on Highway 3 has died of his injuries.
54-year-old Kevin Gagnier, of Kingsville, hit the turkey on the highway just east of Oldcastle around 7:30 a.m. on April 18. The driver of the transport truck was not injured.
At the time of the collision, local animal experts warned that drivers must be careful around wild turkeys, who have been seen in Windsor-Essex more often this spring.
"Please don't assume they're going to get out of the way because for the most part they may just stay there," said Essex Region Conservation Authority biologist Dan Lebedyk.
This is the third fatal motorcycle collision over the past two months.
