Naomi Klein is publishing a new book on U.S. politics, examining the forces behind Donald Trump's successful presidential election campaign, called No Is Not Enough: Resisting Trump's Shock Politics and Winning the World. The book is due out in June.
Klein is an outspoken advocate regarding climate change, a political thinker and accomplished author. Her previous books include No Logo, which became a cult hit, and This Changes Everything, which won the Hilary Weston Writers' Trust Prize for Nonfiction.
The book's publisher, Knopf Canada, says Klein dissects the cultural and corporate reasons behind Trump's campaign — the celebrity and CEO worship — and argues he is "the logical conclusion of many of the most dangerous trends of the past half-century."
"He is the personification of the merger of humans and corporations — a one-man megabrand, with wife and children as spin-off brands," Klein writes in the introduction of No Is Not Enough.
"This book is to help understand how we arrived at this surreal political moment, how to keep it from getting a lot worse, and how, if we keep our heads, we can flip the script and seize the opportunity to make things a whole lot better in a time of urgent need."
Klein describes the book as "a tool-kit for shock-resistance."
Klein told The Guardian(external link) that she normally spends five years researching and writing a book. No Is Not Enough was written in two months.
"An unprecedented number of people are becoming engaged in movements and politics, which is the silver lining of Trump," said Klein to The Guardian.
"It is important to be able to step back from that barrage of news that we are overwhelmed with and think about how we got here, what we can expect, how things can get worse and think strategically how things can get better."
