After the first year, town will save $240K annually, says mayor
Amherstburg is set to save hundreds of thousands annually by switching police dispatch services from LaSalle to Windsor.
The town passed a motion to move their dispatch services during a Police Services Board meeting Tuesday, according to Mayor Aldo DiCarlo.
"The City of Windsor essentially made us an offer we couldn't refuse," he said. "Over the term of the contract, five years, the town will be saving somewhere in the neighbourhood of over $800,000."
LaSalle and three other potential providers put forward bids around $1.4 million, while Windsor came in at $653,000, he explained.
Despite the lower cost, residents can expect the same level of service when they call, said the mayor who described the deal as "too good to pass up."
Amherstburg is in "great shape" financially, according to DiCarlo, but administration will always be looking for ways to save residents money.
Dispatch services will officially switch on Jan. 1, 2018.
