WASHINGTON, D.C.—In a very problematic situation given his recent public comments that he is never alone with a woman when his wife is not present, Mike Pence experienced a moment of terror last night.
While attending his 24-year-old daughter's one-woman show in order to support her artistic endeavours, Pence realized that the show was beginning and literally nobody else had come to watch it, making him, technically speaking, the only man in a room with a woman.
According to sources, Pence didn't even have time to worry about how his daughter was feeling about the poor attendance at a show she had promoted on Facebook for weeks, so concerned was he with the fact that he was contradicting a hard and fast personal rule.
"It was kind of ironic," says Richard Nuttrel, a Pence aide. "The one thing that kept him at ease, I think, was that nobody was around to witness the situation he had walked into. But that was also the whole problem!"

Pence hadn't imagined that the show, titled I Don't Carrot All, Or: One Vegan's Journey, would be his cup of tea, but he was intent on finding time in his schedule to attend and support his daughter, if not the arts as a whole. He definitely expected, however, that others would show up to opening night, or at least there would be a ticket-taker and usher, preferably one of them male.
"I'm told when he saw that his daughter was standing at the door to tear tickets herself, he was horrified," says Nuttrel. "He was very distraught with the dual realizations that not only was he alone with a woman, he clearly hadn't taught her properly to always get other, lesser people to do all your work for you."
At press time, Pence had handcuffed himself to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, just so there were no more risks for now.
