Geneviève Castrée
Goglu is a French-Canadian teenager living in Quebec with her single mother. Written in cursive lettering reminiscent of a high school diary, Castrée's graphic novel Susceptible chronicles how Goglu's identity is shaped by dysfunctional family dynamics, her mother's alcoholism and her own forays into drugs. Goglu seeks comfort in punk music and eventually escapes to Vancouver to live with her biological father. Susceptible is a masterpiece of powerfully evocative imagery and a portrait of unrelenting hope in the face of spiralling destruction.
Susceptible is for readers ages 14 and up.
