It's been almost a year since Leonardo DiCaprio took home his best actor Oscar for The Revenant — and since then, there's been a hole for cheeky Leo-related art that the Oscar snub memes(external link) used to fill. Enter Jennifer Ilett(external link) and Sabrina Parolin(external link), two Toronto-based artists who share a love of Leo and decided to make him their muse.
Parolin and Ilett's project, "Draw Me Like One of Your French Girls(external link)," is a collection of illustrations of DiCaprio inspired by his life and career — from his 90s teen magazine days to his many film roles to the paparazzi photos that glimpse his personal life. Their illustrations are playful — see Leo drooling as he attempts to get into his Lamborghini in The Wolf of Wall Street — but some are also poignant. Their take on an emotional moment between DiCaprio and Cate Blanchett in The Aviator will steal your breath away.
In this video, Ilett and Parolin speak about their collaboration and why they wanted to reverse the male gaze in this project that is so close to their hearts.
Just a note: there is some nudity in this video.
