Saskatchewan's premier officially kicked off a byelection campaign in Saskatoon Meewasin Friday morning.
Brad Wall has set March 2 as the date for the election of a new MLA in that constituency.
The previous Saskatchewan Party MLA, Roger Parent, died late last year.
By law, a byelection must be held within six months of a seat's vacancy. In this case, that meant before the end of May.
The earlier byelection date means the winner can take a seat in the legislative assembly in time for the spring sitting, which begins on March 6.
The Saskatchewan Party, the NDP, the Liberals and the Progressive Conservative party of Saskatchewan have all nominated candidates for the byelection so far.
  • Brent Penner, Saskatchewan Party
  • Ryan Meili, NDP
  • Darrin Lamoureux, Liberals
  • David Prokopchuk, PC Party of Saskatchewan
