NBA star Vince Carter unveiled a new $120,000 basketball court to the youth of a west end Toronto neighbourhood Wednesday.
The professional sized court in the Dixon Road and Islington Avenue area was an initiative of Vince Carter's Embassy of Hope, the Raptor player's charitable foundation.
Mayor Mel Lastman, Toronto Police Chief Julian Fantino and youth and families from the community were on hand along with the six-foot six-inch Carter to host a barbeque lunch and basketball tournament.
The 26-year-old's foundation was started in 1998 in his hometown of Daytona Beach, Florida as a way of helping less fortunate members of the community.
Headed by his mother, Michelle Carter, it expanded its efforts to Toronto during the following year.
