Powder and rubber gloves inside envelope found in unpaid lockbox
A white powder from a package at a UPS store in downtown Saskatoon has been tested and found to be drugs.
The specialized haz-mat unit of the Saskatoon Fire Department was sent to a UPS store in Saskatoon Thursday, responding to a concern about suspicious package.
Paramedics arrived shortly after 2 p.m. CST and interviewed a person at the store on 21st Street in the downtown area.
The fire department said that staff in the store had opened an unpaid lockbox containing a large envelope.
When they opened the envelope, the staff encountered a powder and rubber gloves.
For safety, firefighters helped wash off and decontaminate the staff members in contact with the envelope.
They noted that the office has been sealed off and there is no health or safety concern.
"The package was tested and found to be a controlled substance," the fire department said, adding that it has been turned over to Saskatoon police.
