A 15-year-old boy was taken to hospital early Thursday morning in critical condition after a shooting.
Police and ambulances were called around 12:20 a.m. about a boy who had just been shot at a home on Cannon Street East near Greenaway Avenue.
Police brought police dogs out to search for a male suspect, who was last seen running away from the area. Police did not release a suspect description Thursday morning.
The boy sustained major injuries to his back and was in critical condition when he was transported with lights and sirens to hospital, said Jeff Dunford, a supervisor with Hamilton EMS.
The boy was last reported to be in stable condition and is expected to survive, said Hamilton Police Const. Stephen Welton. His injuries are "reported to be consistent with a gunshot related wound," police said.
Police say the shooting was targeted. They expect to be in the area continuing their investigation Thursday. They ask anyone with information to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
