Fundraising for new pediatric surgical suites at the Children's Hospital of Saskatchewan received a big boost, thanks to a Weyburn, Sask. family.
The family of the late Ken Cugnet have donated $1 million to the hospital's capital campaign.
"We ask ourselves often, are we builders or bystanders? We hope this Christmas, in the spirit of giving, that others will choose to be builders for the Children's Hospital of Saskatchewan," Jo Bannatyne-Cugnet said in a release.
Bannatyne-Cugnet is a children's author and also worked as a nurse.
The new surgical suites will be located near the pediatric emergency department.
They are designed to meet the needs of children requiring surgery, and include both an operative area and an induction room where parents can stay with their children while anesthesia is administered to the young patients.
Construction of the hospital is 33 per cent done. As of last month's update the project remains on schedule, and the building is slated to open in late 2019.
