City crews will be out in full force overnight plowing and sanding Winnipeg streets — and probably ticketing or towing a bunch of vehicles, too.
The declared snow route parking ban is in effect for the first time this winter after Winnipeg was walloped with snow Monday night and Tuesday.
That means graders will be clearing snow-covered sidewalks and streets longer than usual, from midnight to 7 a.m. CT Thursday.
The annual snow route parking ban takes effect on Dec. 1 every winter and usually runs between 2 a.m. and 7 a.m. CT. The declared snow route parking ban means city crews can be out two hours longer to clean up after a heavy snowfall.
If your street is among the lucky ones, vehicles need to be moved from curbsides or drivers risk waking up to $100 tickets ($50 if you pay early). Tow trucks will move some vehicles found in parking ban areas.
Use the city's address lookup tool(external link) or Know Your Zone(external link) website (mobile app here(external link)) to see if your street is under a parking ban. Call 311 on your phone or email 311@winnipeg.ca for more information.
Winnipeg was hit with 17 centimetres of snow in the northwest area near the airport and close to 30 cm in the southern and eastern parts of the city Tuesday.
