Joan Stacey, whose son is on trial for second-degree murder, took the stand at Supreme Court in St. John's Thursday morning.
Ray Stacey, 25, is accused of stabbing and killing Clifford Comerford, 41, in a van on Jan. 11, 2015. Stacey and Comerford worked together as chicken catchers.
Joan Stacey told the court her son was living with her at her Mount Pearl home at the time.
She told the court she had packed her son a lunch before he headed to work. When he came home, she said he had two black eyes, a swollen nose and cut lip.
Sherlock Patey, Stacey's father, took the witness box Wednesday. He said he was the one who put his son's blood-soaked clothes in the wash the night he returned home.
