If you live on the north side of Prince Edward Island, Tuesday night's expected snowfall won't pack quite the wallop it will across the rest of the Island.

CBC meteorologist Kalin Mitchell's latest map shows the northern one-third of P.E.I. from Tignish to East Point should get approximately one to five centimetres of snow, and the lower two-thirds of the Island — roughly, everything below Route 2 — will get between five and 10 centimetres. Coastal areas on the south shore may see as much as 20 centimetres.

"A mix of snow, ice pellets, and rain begins for P.E.I. near midnight [Tuesday]," Mitchell predicts.

The mix will continue Wednesday morning before clearing in the afternoon.

What can drivers expect Wednesday morning?

"Wet, slushy accumulation of 5 to 10 centimetres look likely for much of P.E.I. though may be lower along the Gulf coast and the eastern coastline of the province," Mitchell said.

Winds, however, are not forecast to be as strong as this past weekend — southeast turning northeast with occasional gusts of 30 to 50 kilometres an hour, Mitchell said.

"A rainy, windy round of weather will follow on Thursday," said Mitchell.

"The good news for Islanders with this system is that there will be lots less snow — less than 10 c.m.," added CBC P.E.I. weather specialist Kevin "Boomer" Gallant, pointing out milder temperatures will mean "a lot of melting through Wednesday morning."
