Fidel Castro's mountain hideaway was meant to keep his location a secret from Fulgencio Batista's forces, but Castro still wanted to spread the message of his revolution.
While Castro used his mountain camp in the late '50s, Canadian journalist Erik Durschmied was smuggled up the mountain to speak with the young rebel leader for the CBC.
Castro spoke about wanting to improve the lives of Cubans and create a "democratic government".
During an assignment in Cuba in 2015, the CBC's Adrienne Arsenault introduced the video from almost the exact spot where the interview took place.
